So we left Digby on Sunday afternoon (I want to thank everyone for decorating the car, it looked wonderful), and drove back to Halifax. Thankfully we already had most of our stuff organized for Mexico, and it was just a matter of doing a bit of laundry, emptying the suitcases and filling them back up again. I think we made it to bed by 10pm, as we had a 4am taxi pickup to the airport Monday morning, so we could catch our first flight at 6am. We arrived in Mexico at 4pm local time, and then had a private car to the resort, as our flight was late getting in. A note when you arrive at Cancun airport, if you can say 'NO' to timeshare salesmen (or you want to go to a presentation), we found it was worth it to get some decent information about where we were going. As we tried to exit the airport, there were guys with tourism tags on offering information about Mexico. We got some good info about where to go and what to do in Playa del Carmen, but were surprised when he started mentioning presentations and food at another hotel. We figured out it was likely about timeshares, and not really wanting to listen to do that on our honeymoon, we just told the guy no. He was good about it too. But if you can't say no, then I would just keep walking right out the doors of the airport.
So we check in to the resort (Riu Playacar, really nice spot I must say) and get to our room, and we cant get over how big everything is. The main room is a really nice size, with 2 double beds pushed together, a large bathroom area with a nice big shower, seperate toilet, and closet with the safe. Oh yeah, did I mention the minibar and fridge, with something for everyone? It almost makes me wish every hotel was all inclusive. So then we decided while we were still awake to check out the resort a bit. The playacar has six buildings with rooms, and each one has 2 or 3 floors (never found out, we were on the 1st floor). As you can see, we were in the pink building. Each building isnt that huge, and they are all kinda spread out, so it is big and yet feels cozy all at the same time. The pool and beach weren't very far at all, and what a beautiful beach. I've never been to the caribean, so I know there are nicer beaches out there, but that was the nicest beach I've ever been on. And it was pretty sweet. The water was pretty decent too, although it was rough most of the time we were there.
And with that little bit of exploring, we decided to get some much needed sleep after traveling most of the day.
