Last Honeymoon Post: Day 5 & 6

Day 5, our 2nd to last day in Mexico, and we decided to take a trip over to the island of Cozomel. We had no idea what we would do once we got there, but the ferry over was just a short hop away, so we figured what the heck. As soon as we got past the actual ferry terminal, we were soon inundated with offers to rent scooters, cars, and to go snorkeling. We got a really nice offer to go out in a glass bottom boat and see some of the ocean bottom. We kicked ourselves for not taking our swimsuits with us to go snorkeling, but it was still a great time in the boat. We had heard that there was a lot of damage to the island, but it was something else to actually see it. Cruise ship peirs looked like someone picked them up, and just crumbled them up and dropped them back into the ocean. It was hard to believe that wind and waves could do that to rebar and concrete. There were a lot of fish already making new homes among the wreckage though. One of the guys from the boat even swam down to the bottom to grab live starfish for us. They were really great guys.

After the boat tour, we stopped at Poncho's Back Yard for some lunch. Nice little spot, but it was crazy busy with tourists from the cruise ships. Lots of stuff to buy as well. We also stopped by a series of shops where I picked up Sarah's wedding gift, a teddy bear made of alpaca, that is incredibly soft. Sarah named him Van, short for Vanilla. We then stopped at the Cozomel museum, where we met the most interesting man explain the way the native peoples lived before the Europeans showed up. And we made our way back to our hotel.

On our very last full day, we just tried to relax before heading home. We wandered the beach, and then went in to Playa del Carmen for an awesome couples massage. If you are ever there, be sure to check out Kristines Spa. We also checked out some of the local ruins, seeing as how we never made it to any of the big tourist sites. And we enjoyed our final buffet dinner at the resort, with our favorite waiter Wil. Then we got up at 3am the next morning to catch a car to the airport to beging our trip home.
